SAPS OFFICIALLY ACKNOWLEDGES THE VALIDITY OF GREEN LICENCES
The Acting National Commissioner of SAPS on 8 May 2017 issued a directive to all SAPS personnel confirming the legality and validity of the Green Licences issued under the 1969 Act.
The complete directive can be downloaded on the Natshoot website under Newsletters – Vol. 13(16).
Keep a copy of the directive with you if you still have a green licence (even if you have an expired white licence). Just for in case the SAPS official you must deal with, does not want to acknowledge the validity of green licences (as happened to one of our members last Friday on the East-Rand).
Paragraph 2, first bullet of the directive – is of importance in respect of the validity of green licences
Despite the directive making mention of people having to hand in firearms of which the renewal was not done on time, we advise that members do not hand in firearms and rather wait until we have the verdict of the SA Hunters’ case which was heard end April this year (we shall then have better information and advice to give to members).
If you decide to hand in firearms, make sure you indicate that you are not handing in the firearms for destruction but only for safe keeping so that you can get it back.
